Before Rockstar Games could release the official version, an anonymous leaker unveiled the Grand Theft Auto 6 trailer, which prominently features a 'Buy BTC' advertisement.

There has been considerable speculation about whether the highly anticipated game would incorporate an in-game cryptocurrency. Many wondered if bitcoin (BTC) would have any role in the game.

And someone managed to make it happen.

The first individual to reveal the trailer to the world earlier this week appears to have been the Twitter account 'Gta6trailerleak.'

Although the account was swiftly banned, as we know, everything on the internet tends to persist. Other accounts witnessed it and started sharing it, making it still accessible today.

Notably, the 'Buy BTC' message is prominently displayed throughout the leaked video.

It's safe to assume that the company wouldn't have taken this approach—covering the entire video—if it didn't plan to include BTC in some way in the future.

The fifth installment of GTA was launched in September 2013, developed by the British development house Rockstar North and published by its American parent company, Rockstar Games.

On December 5, shortly after the leak, the company released the official trailer. The new game is expected to be released in 2025.

Meanwhile, the leaker's Twitter account has been deactivated.

Did the BTC Price React?

Surprisingly or perhaps due to its unexpected nature, the GTA-BTC trailer generated significant buzz, not only within the crypto community but also in the mainstream gaming industry.

Some even argued that this might have been one of the most impactful BTC advertisements to date, with developer Udi Wertheimer among them.

But what was the cryptocurrency's price response?

It's worth noting that BTC was already experiencing an upward trend when the leaked trailer surfaced. Therefore, it remains unclear to what extent (if any) the trailer contributed to this increase.

Many experts have attributed the recent price surge, at least in part, to the general anticipation of a potential approval of a Bitcoin spot exchange-traded fund (ETF) in the United States.

That said, on December 4, BTC reached its highest price at $42,008, compared to $39,760 on December 3.
